Hand-Knotted Rugs
Jaipur, Rajasthan
Intricate knotting gives the Jaipur rugs their beauty
Jaipur’s hand-knotted rugs are created from plush wool or luxurious silks. They are crafted with intricate designs achieved through a complex and highly-skilled knotting process.

The Making
The traditional technique involves knotting line by line, to create the surface motif on the carpet. The motifs now include both traditional and contemporary, making the Rajasthani hand-knotted rugs highly coveted. The hand-knotting technique makes these rugs stronger and long-lasting. They use traditional weaving techniques and are robust in construction.
Memory Vault
The rugs have a multi-dimensional texture given to them by the multitude of knots that are meticulously incorporated into its structure. To check the authenticity of a hand-knotted rug, examine the knots on the underside. Irregular and non-uniform knots are indicators of this traditional craft.
Hand-knotted rugs can be maintained to last up to ten years. When crafted using better materials and superior craftsmanship, they can last longer.
