Brassware Moradabad
Brass Vase
Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh
Size
17 x 17 x 27.5 cm
Moradabad is renowned for its brassware––both utilitarian and ornamental. Ritual objects like kalash (pots to hold holy water), traditional wedding gifts like paandaan (a box for betelnuts and leaves), and vases are embellished using a variety of engraving techniques with floral patterns, arabesques, or densely laid out trellises.

Deep engraving, as seen on this vase, is called marori, which is sometimes also filled with lacquer, adding another dimension to the golden lustre of brass.
