Description

This carpet's field is red from edge to edge, broken only by an oval medallion in ivory and gold at the centre and a paler cream border. A Kashmir weaver hand-knots the piece in silk, 576 knots to the square inch, dense enough to keep the scrollwork crisp. There is something concentrated about that much red filling a small floor space. Warm lamplight pulls the gold forward.
